Variant Button Styling Stopped Working

Variant buttons had been working — black text with black outline, then on hover or selected, white text on black button. It just stopped working. Any ideas how to fix?

I've had CSS code stop working when I changed to a different animation (specifically "flex") within the site styles of the template. It might be worth checking.
