Tax Exempt Customers - What workarounds

Need to know what workarounds designers have had to put in place for tax exempt customers in Ecommerce?  Even is the workaround is manual, I am interested.  I use the TaxJar extension if that helps.

Support told me that I could partially refund the tax paid.

I really dislike this approach- this is for a customer buying a product (artwork) for a university.

I am guessing this makes our paperwork more complex.

Are there no longer any tax exempt # etc?

WHY hasnt squarespace addressed this simple thing?
