Hide product variants

I want to hide a product variant from a product page drop down without deleting the variant and losing associated waitlist. 

I am releasing a 4 variants of a products (A,B,C,D) on Friday but I have waitlist signups for another variant (E) I want to preserve that waitlist for a future release of variant E. But I do not want to display E in variant drop down on Friday so that customers do no think it is available.

Adding a site-wide password does not allow anyone to alter your site. It only allows those with the password to see your site.
