JohnIngramm
Hello Everyone! Anyone has experience of shifting from WP to squarespace? I have a store on WP where we sell solar panel and have 100+ products. Now due to some issues with WP we want to shift but we are scared of SEO. How much it will make effect on our current ranking? Link to comment
SEOSpace_Henry
Hey @JohnIngramm - I've done a few sites before - it can work well if you follow best practices on the new site and, most importantly, map your old sitemap and match that in Squarespace. Your sitemap is essential because if the URL of your pages (such as your 100+ products) change and you don't add the appropriate redirects, Google will return to your site only to see they've disappeared (bad for SEO) What's more, if you had backlinks to those pages, the links will be lost - lowering your domain authority, which is something you want to keep to rank higher. When I complete a big change of a site, such as a migration, I always try to get more backlinks and content live post migration - this builds the momentum after the inevitable temporary drop in traffic after a site moves.
