Switching domain names

Recommended Posts

Hi folks! Question here: I had a domain registered with a 3rd party that expired. The domain name subsequently became ridiculously expensive, so I purchased a new one through Squarespace. Thing is, even though the new domain name says "connected", "active" and "primary", it's not working. Doesnt seem to be pointing to my site. If I type my new domain name it doesn't take me to my website. What am I missing? What step did I not do? I disactivated the old domain name associated to the account under settings - domain, but still not working. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I purchased the new domain on August 24th. It said active within 3 days. I disconnected the old domain today. New domain is set as primary. New domain is: www.mariellequesney.ca but still goes to the old domain: www.mariellequesney.com which is no longer active. Thank you!

It sounds like this is a caching issue that only affects you and it happens because your device (or your internet provider) is caching the old information.

For me, the .ca domain is correctly reaching the Squarespace site. The .com address goes to a non-Squarespace parking page.

It depends where it is being cached, but it will clear soon. A good check in situations like this is to try browsing the site with your mobile on a cellular data network.
