Image title and description

Can anyone advise on an image title and description issue? It would be like helping your grandpa. I'm struggling with an unpublished 7.0 photo portfolio site using the Avenue template. Thumbnails on a home index page lead to a stacked series of images on underlying gallery pages.

1. Default image titles and descriptions on gallery pages are centered (see Gallery image below). How do I display them flush left with less spacing between titles and descriptions?

2. A similar issue with images on the Blog page, where default image titles and descriptions already display flush left but are too small (to my old eye; see Blog image below): How to I enlarge the image title font so it's identical or nearly identical to the *date line* under the Blog post title on the same page.
