Image grid layout help

Hello,

I am trying to create an image grid layout where all images align vertically and where the grid varies between 1 column and 2 columns for the images. I am wanting to replicate the attached layout.

I've inserted a grid section from the classic editor and selected the masonry layout, but this is staggering the image heights.

Is there an alternative way for me to do this using one of the other block options?

I'm currently on a trial and using 7.1.
