Switch to template after trying to make a site without one....

So, I skipped the template and went straight to building my site, got the domain figured out etc. Now I hate how it looks and want to try to use a template. How do I do that since this website I "created" is attached to my account. If I start a new website from scratch it's not connected to my account I paid for and the domain i own.  

You can create a new website within your Squarespace account with a template starting point. You can move your domain from one website to another within your account, BUT you cannot move a paid subscription between websites.

Alternatively, the templates are mearly starting points. You can get to a template by selecting a preset in the color palette (in the styles menu), a font pack in the fonts menu. You can also reset all of the color themes if you need. The pages in the templates are made from the pre-built sections or pages when adding a new section or new page.
