Side Nav Menu

Recommended Posts

@kaydotjpg Great site!!! It's been heavily customized with CSS code. On desktop view, actual header navigation is hidden. Sidebar is a regular section and it's position has been altered with custom code.

Any idea (with coding or a plugin) how this person made that super cool side navigation situation?

This custom navigation has been built with a Squarespace page section. They've used some CSS to style the first section on the page so that it looks like the navigation. To do this, the CSS is used to:

  • set fix the position of the section
  • set the width of the section to be a fraction of the viewport width (vw)
  • set the height of the section to fill the viewport height (vh)

The built-in navigation isn't used on desktop (it is hidden) although they have used it for mobile devices.

@kaydotjpg you could use a third-party plugin to achieve the effect as well. Will Myers offers a plugin for a Split Layout with an optional feature to implement a sticky section.

Also, Square Kicker has an option that will allow you to achieve this effect.

You can search for 'sticky sections,' and there are lots of YT tuts and offerings that show you how to achieve what you are seeking to do.
