pauldandurand
I plan to migrate our site from Squarespace 7.0 Brine Family/Margot Template to something similar in the set of Squarespace 7.1 templates. Would anyone have recommendations based on experience with Margot? I included my URL if you are curious about how my site looks today. Unfortunately, Squarespace doesn't have a migration chart that gives recommendations. Thanks! Link to comment
Solution derricksrandomviews Posted August 3, 2023 Solution Share Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) 7.1 was inspired by the Brine Family of templates to begin with but it seems there is no 7.1 starting design that is exactly like the 7.0 Margo template with horizontal scrolling. That being said any 7.1 template can be made to look like any other because in effect they are one template with a lot of style changes which is why you will not find a template switch option in 7.1 I suspect you are wanting to migrate your pie.me site to 7.1. I think a site with the look closest to yours is Malone in 7.1 The layout is similar in many ways to your Margot design. https://malone-fluid-demo.squarespace.com/ Edited August 3, 2023 by derricksrandomviews Link to comment
pauldandurand
@derricksrandomviews Thanks for your tip. Malone design looks good, but I assume it should be easy for me to create each page to start with a banner image like the home page, as I have done with Margot. Thanks again! derricksrandomviews 1 Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
I think your assumption is correct. Let us know how your migration goes. Link to comment
pauldandurand
@derricksrandomviews What are your thoughts about starting a 7.1 migration project without using an existing design, but instead using the Blank Template Blueprint in my new trial account. AND, I could also start a second trial in parallel with one of the design layout templates. Then I could get ideas with the design one for helping me build the blank one. Or maybe I might find one easier to go with and drop the other. What's nice about being a Circle member is that I have six months for the trials. Have you found this to be a useful strategy for the objective of trying to replicate an existing 7.0 design as much as possible? Thanks! Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
I am a 7.0 Avenue user. I have built a number of 7.0 sites, including Wexleys, and Brine sites. I have experimented with a number of 7.1 sites as well for learning purposes. I also have an Anya, Bedford member that I am experimenting with. I have never tried to use a blank template, with so many Squarespace templates and 7.1 having so many unique from each other, I think I can find one that is a very good starting point for making a good-looking site when I build one. That being said my site is eight years old but doesn't look much like it did when I first built it. I have a lot of code changes/ It still has Avenue's basic structure, including index pages, and I adapted that concept for my blog. I have some of the standard stacked image gallery pages as well. The overall look of the template has been altered a lot. Seeing that I can make so many changes to any template, I don't feel the need to change to a different one including the 7.1 version of Avenue. Here are some of my sites if you care to take a look. https://waterclinicfl.com/ was Built on Brine some years ago. It looks very much like many 7.1 "templates". https://christinegregoryphotography.com/ A Wexley site and landing page. (my daughter's website) One of the best templates for photographers and artists in my opinion. https://myrandomviews.com/ is my site, built on Avenue and also using a cover page template, a great feature not available in 7.1 Blog sidebar is a standard option, but I don't use it. The same sidebar displays all blog pages which is one reason I don't use it. I have two blog pages, although you may not notice that right off. Starting two trials in parallel, that is what I do a lot, sometimes more than two. Edited August 18, 2023 by derricksrandomviews Link to comment
