Is it possible to clarify the authentication step of a digital download product?

I am testing out my digital products and the step that customers get confused on is when they have to authenticate with a code.  After they put in the code, it seems as if nothing has happened, but it has actually sent an email with a link.  They don't realize that the final link has been sent.

The most confusing part of this step, I think, is that the authentication screen has a box under order summary (top left) that says "authenticate to download" with a downward arrow.  This makes it seems like that is where you need to click to get your files (and you cannot).

I think it could be cleared up if, after you put in your authentication code and hit continue, the screen would change to "successful. please check your email" or something like that.  (Or, is there a way to get rid of this step all together and just let the customer receive the download link after they complete their purchase?)

Thank you!

When a customer has just checked out, the order status page should look like this, with clear "DOWNLOAD ITEM" buttons for digital products:

They shouldn't need to authenticate, and therefore shouldn't see your example screenshot, unless they try to view the order status page at a later date without logging on to a customer account.
