Issues with CookieBot and Squarespace

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I hope someone can help with a quite serious problem. I have implemented CookieBot to our company page and the CookieBot shows up on the first visit. The problem is, that if the user denies cookie consent, the whole site turns empty. There is nothing showing. No text, header, images, nothing.

The CookieBot script is placed in the header in Squarespace. I have tried to turn CookieBot from blocking cookies automatically to manual but I don't know how to add the Squarespace scripts manually for the site to work. Does anyone else experience this problem and can help?

It looks like you have configured CookieBot to block the essential cookies.

Squarespace cannot function without these so you'll need to log on to CookieBot and categorise the cookies so that it only blocks the optional ones. If you need help with that, I recommend that you visit the Cookiebot support pages or contact their support team.

Thank you for your extremely fast response @paul2009. The problem is that CookieBot automatically blocks Squarespace scripts and I don't know the source of these scripts or how to add them. I tried to identify them and add them at the bottom as you can see in the following screenshot. But it doesn't help. Hopefully, the screenshot helps.

The support answered me in a week saying I have to add it manually but no help in this regard...

If you haven't committed to CookieBot yet (you haven't paid for it) then I recommend that you take a look at another tool instead. As I didn't find CookieBot very easy to configure, it's not something that I can recommend or assist with. There are other reports on the forum where users have also found it difficult to configure.

I've evaluated a number of these consent tools with Squarespace and as a result I personally recommend CookieScript. (This is an affiliate link for a product I use and love. If you make a purchase I may receive a tiny commission. All opinions remain my own.) I use this product myself and with clients as I find it the most user-friendly for visitors, whilst remaining compliant and easy to configure. I appreciate that we're all different so you may not agree 🙃.

My second favourite is CookieYes (also an affiliate link).

I hope this helps.

I've tested a number of these consent tools and this was my favourite, followed by CookieYes. I didn't find CookieBot very user friendly and so I'm not the best person to help you with it.

I see. Unfortunately, we've already paid for CookieBot. I guess I will just push their support. Thank you for your help

We have used the Cookiebot cookie banner on our website. Unfortunately, the entire website is displayed blank if you only want to use technical cookies. You now have to approve all cookies or you cannot use the site.

Previously we had the problem that the banner appeared first, but the coolies were still intercepted. We are really desperate because we are also building a customer website that cannot currently be published in compliance with data protection regulations.

Ho we can fix the problem?
