SS does not support hosting of outside databases. SS is not like other hosting services where you may have access to the backend server and can install your own software. SS is a closed proprietary system.

If you are used to the old school way of doing things you may find SS is not suited to your needs.

Your question implies the ability to define your own fields for the database. SS does not support hosting free from user defined databases.

Of course SS uses databases for its own internal uses. There are two pages types that have import capabilities. Blog and Store pages can be imported into. The issue is that your databases would have to fit into SS's mold, you can not mold SS databases to fit your needs. Although Store pages are relatively easy to import into format wise, blog pages use WordPress WXR files in a specific format and are not easy to hand craft. It is beyond the scope of this post to describe those file formats.
