How to Improve site speed?

Recommended Posts

I am relatively new to working with Squarespace, and I'm currently facing challenges with optimizing my website's speed. As a beginner, I would greatly appreciate some guidance on recommended strategies and techniques to enhance the performance and speed of my Squarespace website. Any advice or best practices from experienced developers in the community would be invaluable to me. Thanks in advance!

Hi @terrenwoakes,

Site speed on Squarespace is something that lacks behind compared to the competition - there are only a few things you can do here.

  • Ensure all images are <250kb - SQSP recommends 500kb, but to help your page speed as much as possible, I recommend <250kb
  • Check for and remove/fix broken links
  • Remove unnecessary fonts or custom code - if someone else built your website, they might have put unnecessary code in that's slowing down your site
  • Embed videos as YouTube videos, rather than adding them directly to Squarespace
  • Use Accelerated mobile pages - all you need to do is navigate to “Accelerated Mobile Pages” in “Settings” >>> “Blog Preferences” and then check “Use AMP"

Feel free to checkout the below video if you want to see some of this in action. Remember, site speed is just one ranking factor, so don't worry too much!
