Trouble Enabling and Making Categories Visible

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am trying to make our categories visible in a dropdown menu on our shop page. We have 4 categories that contain subcategories. However, they will not display on the shop page. "Enable Page" and "Filter Visibility" are greyed out and unavailable; nothing permanent seems to happen when I select "ADD TO YOUR MAIN NAVIGATION." The category will show on the page on its own, but then it will disappear and will not list all of the categories and subcategories together.

"Our Products" — with all products — is the only thing that will enable and display on the shop page since it is not listed as a category. Please help!

Clicking ADD TO YOUR MAIN NAVIGATION should create a link to the category in your site’s main navigation, but it wasn't working for me either, when I checked. I recommend that you contact Squarespace Customer Care about this issue.

As a workaround, you should be able to create links to categories by manually adding links to the main navigation. To do this:

  1. Open the PAGES panel.
  2. Click the + icon next to the section where you want to add the category link. You may want to add a Folder first, and then add the links to this folder.
  3. In the menu, click Link.
  4. In the Link Editor, type a suitable title and the category URL, like this:

  5. Save your changes.

For more information on manually adding links, see Adding links to your navigation.

We've tried adding links to take customers to the various categories by clicking on the hyperlink on the home page, but when I test it out, I receive an error message that the page will not load. Does the page/category need to be enabled to view in order for this to happen? Because I receive an error message when trying to enable that as well... the toggle button is greyed out, and I am unable to change it.

Can you fix it now

We can't fix issues like this. We are members of the forum like yourself. Squarespace is not here monitoring issues. Please see item seven on the forum guidelines.

As @paul2009 mentioned contacting customer support is the way to go .

Hey all,

This is not a fix on the store page itself but I found an alternative way to organise the categories.

You can create a drop-down section, name it "store" and create links with the categories' URLs. I placed the original store page under "not linked" so I don't have it doubled on the main menu and still have access to all the products. I hope it makes sense. He explains better and more in detail:

Thanks, Dani

Hi!

I had the same problem but I fixed it by turning on the Filter Visibility on the "All products" settings page. After that I was able to change the visibility on categories.
