Picture transition and grid picture mobile responsive

How can I create an animation where a full background picture transitions into a grid picture with individual cells appearing one by one? I attempted to design it using Canva's video template, but the grid picture I created isn't mobile responsive.  

I'm aware that Squarespace offers a grid gallery feature, but I'm having difficulty designing a grid that transitions from a full background picture to the grid using code on Squarespace.
