Favicon not appearing on Google Search results

I've uploaded a 48x48 pxl favicon, which is displaying on browser tabs but not in Google SERPS. 

I've submitted my sitemap to GSC, indexed the pages etc. 

Do I need to do the below (inserting code) , and if so how and where?

I'm trying to get my Favicon to show up in SERPS.

I've done everything possible, someone has also said that the best place to have the Favicon is saved in the rot directory (see picture below). What is the root directory and how do I add my Favicon to it?

I'm assuming the screenshot isn't related to your website (judging by the wordpress link)?

I'm 99.99% sure that's not something we can access in Squarespace. In saying that, you should only need to upload your icon to the browser icon in the Settings menu of your site.

My favicon is a 192x192 pixel png file and shows in the SERP:

If you've added your site to Google Search Console, you may need to login there and request Google to re-index your site - it may not have picked up the change yet.

May I ask, how soon after uploading your favicon did it take to display in SERPS?

Mine is 48 x 48, I indexed my site in search console  few days ago and it still hasn't updated. It displays in broswer tab, but not SERPS

I don't recall to be honest as I wasn't actively looking for it. Can you see in GSC if the page has been reindexed yet? From memory there should be a date of last crawl (or similar).

If not yet I would give it a bit more time, but if it has since been crawled and still not appearing you could try uploading a larger size just in case?

Squarespace seems to resize any icon that I upload to 100x100, which violates Google's guideline of being a multiple of 48x48. How do I get Squarespace to drop the `?format=100w` query parameter?

@alanp Squarespace has always resized favicons to 100x100. That said, they briefly stopped doing it earlier this year, but now seem to be resizing again. Regardless, the 100x100 will work fine.

in my point of view and with past experience i have just adjust the size of favicon images and it get resolve issue with in no time

Same here, tried everything. It's not showing up in Google Search. Maybe it's because the favicon.ico is not stored under the domain name of the website. 

How do we contact Squarespace directly? Can we get a petition to them or something to act on this as a matter of urgency?

The problem is this, the logo is there but it's white and I do not know how to change this, I have tried googeling it but there seems to be no solution. 
I have tried changing Favicon, but that only changes the little icon on the slide that opens, all the way up top. This logo is correct, which is weird. 
Anyone have any suggestions?

is it necessary to have a favicon? asking in terms of SEO. If a site does not have a favicon then there's a negative impact on the SEO of site?

Hi @tuanphan were you able to figure anything out for this problem above? We have a client who went through a brand refresh and her old favicon is still showing up instead of the new one. I've tried the recommendations above but nothing is working. Any thoughts or ideas? I appreciate the help.

That brown Squarespace box is the one thing ruining all my hard work.

Anyway, after scanning my homepage and making the straightforward amendments, my Favicon was appearing in SERPS after the next Google Search Console refresh.

I tried all of the usual methods and followed all of the tips on this forum, but it didn't work.

However, one day after randomly using (https://www.seospace.co.uk/) and ticking off everything on the list my Favico just randomly appeared. It could be a coincidence but it seems odd.

I promise I am in  no way affiliated with SEOspace, but this is what seemed to wrk for me.

Due to Squarespace forum file type restrictions, I created a jpg of my ppt. Download the jpg and view it with an app on your PC to zoom in so you can read the document.
