Check my code? Need semitransparent background for a specific text block

I'm not a code person, but I can cut and paste. I did just learn how to find a block ID so that's cool.

I'd like to have the text block that lays on top of the photo on this home page use a slightly opaque/mostly transparent background.

What's wrong with my code though? It doesn't work. Thanks!

background: transparent !important;
padding: 1px;
text-align: left;
}
