Broken links and removed pages - how to find on your site

Recommended Posts

Typically it's a manual process, just going through each page methodically and changing the links, there's no search-and-replace functionality.

There are a number of tools online that allow you to run checks for broken links

Hi Tuan, this is the tool I used:

https://www.deadlinkchecker.com/website-dead-link-checker.asp

If I use other tools, like https://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/ these links don't come up. So it's really weird, not sure which tool to trust. I also tried the Google Chrome extension "Check my links" and these don't show up either...

I think the tool has a bug

because first link is fine, no error

with second link, I can't find it on your site

Hi @tuanphan! I tried your tool with many of my client's website, and I always get the same message error 404

Any idea why?

Because the site has password, the tool can't access it

Can you provide password? I will try something

Oh so it has to be active?

Yes. If your website is not live every page is a 404 redirect to the password page.
