Members Only Navbar

The navbar for members only areas is a drop down. This looks really bad IMO, why can't it just be a normal navbar? Not to mention, it doesn't seem like you're able to change the color of it - standard black on every page. Is there any way for me to get a regular navbar, just as it would look on a typical website, but in the members only area? Literally just the regular navbar from the regular non-members only part of the site. Same thing. Does anyone know of any custom code or third party plugin that might be able to fix this? If not, this seems like a simple thing for developers to change, just have to make it operate the same as the site outside members only area. 

I've attached an image as to what this drop down navbar looks like, as well as what a navbar is supposed to look like. Please help!
