How do I change the background colour of the navigation bar (header) at the top of the page?

Hi,

I would like to change the background colour of the navigation bar. It is white currently and I'm looking for a grey colour.

When I select a different theme in site styles or try to edit the existing the existing theme, nothing happens. It is as though the navigation section is transparent and it takes on the colour(s) of the section below.

Is there any easy way to change this or is code required?
