Code injection for a language switch button

hi guys, 

i've followed this guide regarding creating a bilingual website:

i can't create a switch though, i follow the code an this is what comes out:

i would like to put a simple switch with just the words (english or Italian) no flag or whatever,  on the right, next to the instragram and facebook button.

how can i do that?

You have forgotten to place this code within the <script> tags.

 I added the script tags, now i can see the switch but its still not working properly:

The comment below should be below the opening script tag, not above it:

/*setup language switcher*/

i managed to fix it, but i kind of dont really like it.

If i scroll down the switch disappear:

would it be possible to add it like here? like part of the menu?
