Asset Library displays no files - all disappeared (updated)

Asset Library is not displaying any files, only folders which also appear empty. I assume the files still exist as website is still showing all expected images.

Leaving the Asset Library in the browser, the list of files sometimes appear and just as you get ready to continue building the site they disappear again!!! Right now, site building is impossible with adding images.

This has just happened to me too!

My asset library is completely empty.

Asset library empty on one of my websites but not the other one.

Hi I've been having this issue for months. I'm on a deadline now though and it's really frustrating. Does anyone know how to fix this and can you post the solution here?
