Membership approvals- one page

Hi there! Does anyone know a way to create a "members only" space where one can approve/ deny membership? Working for an organization that is membership driven- yet, the site will not determine that. I'm looking to build a portion of the site for access to members of the organization where they can get access to news/ etc. Looking for a process like:

1. Someone requests access
2. We check if they are an existing member of the organization
3. If they are, they grant them password protected access to the one page on the site for members

Does something like this exist? It seems the member areas allow for anyone and everyone to sign up if they choose. Does anyone have experience with something similar? Thanks!

I don't know of a way to set up a member area like that. A form and password-protected page may be sufficient for your needs if you are happy with a single password for all of your members.
