Click on images for individual close-up

I have what seems like a simple request: I'd like to create a gallery page where you can click on each image and have it open as a separate image for a closer look. I've tried using image blocks, a gallery page template, and a gallery block within a regular page, and don't seem to figure it out.

Can someone enlighten me please?

You mean open image in lightbox (new tab) or open new custom url in new tab?

Meanwhile I discovered Lightbox and where to activate it, thank you! Is it possible to have a caption underneath the image only when its in Lightbox?

Do you use 7.0 or 7.1?

Is there any way I can offer a close up of images? I have lightbox and that works great but my site is for artwork and viewers will want to look closely at details.
