image on top of thumbnail image based on category/tag

Hi all,

I am trying to put an image on top of a thumbnail in a gallery, based on a category or tag (although im open to other suggestions as well). The idea is that images on this page:

https://triceratops-chipmunk-ax8d.squarespace.com/still-life

will get a red dot image overlayed:

based on whether it's in the "Sold" category or has the "Sold" tag (whatever is more convenient).

Im not a css hero, and so far I've only managed to talk to the thumbnails.. and that's how far I got after searching for about an hour:

.collection-type-gallery #thumbnails .thumb{
   
}

Any help would be much appreciated 🙂
