Automatically remove items from cart if checkout is unsuccessful for express checkout

Recommended Posts

Hi, I sell only one service on my site, and I enabled express checkout so that when customers click purchase, it directs them immediately to the checkout page.

My problem is this - if the customer clicks back or decides to abandon the checkout, and later returns to purchase, they cannot click on the purchase button again - a message that says "UNABLE TO PURCHASE ITEM. Sorry, we only have 1 of that item available." pops up. I figure that the problem is because I listed my products as a service, and the item stays in the cart when the customer first clicked on purchase. When they click on purchase again, squarespace is trying to add the same product into the cart again, thus the error message pops up.

Now since I only have one type of service and the concept of cart doesn't quite apply (hence express checkout is enabled), how can I clear the cart always so that this problem doesn't occur?

Correct. As you only have one service product available in your inventory, Squarespace cannot add it a second time. It is not possible to clear the 'cart'. Once a customer has added the item to the cart or checkout, it will remain there until they delete it manually.

Can you help us to understand why the stock level is set to '1' instead of unlimited? When set to unlimited, you wouldn't experience this issue.

Hi, I think you pinpointed the problem right on. I've set the stock level as unlimited, and I don't face that problem anymore.

However, the shopping cart would appear, if the user clicks purchase and then click back. The cart overlaps with some other widgets I have on the page and I would like to hide it. Is there a way to hide the cart icon?

I don't understand your latest question. Can you provide a link to the site and a screenshot or instructions to reproduce the issue?

See website here https://www.mygurulab.com/trial

Select age and grade > click "See Recommended Class" > click "Book" > click Back.

An orange Cart appears on the bottom right - any way to hide it?

In addition, as these classes are mutually exclusive, a user should not be purchasing 2 classes. However, if a user clicks Book on a different class after clicking Back, the checkout would have 2 items - the first class, and the second class after clicking Back. Any way to automatically remove the first item from cart, say a javascript to empty cart on page load?
