Lost, How to open image from gallery/store for additional details

How do I add an image to the gallery that I can click on that will allow the image to open larger for more detail and a description? I have original art that I want to display and make available for purchase. I have never created a website before and am feeling quite overwhelmed. I thank you all for any assistance you are willing to offer.

I had been trying to add details while in the gallery, when the area I needed to be in was Commerce. I would be happy to help anyone else with a similar issue the best I can, as I know only too well how helpless it feels to not receive assistance.
