Why do images have a burnt effect on my site?

Why do images appear with a burnt out/overly saturated effect on my site?
They look like if I put color saturation to the max.

I have checked the images uploaded and they look normal before uploading them.

SS by default puts a semi-opaque overlay over many images.

We'd need to see the images to be able to help with what settings or custom code might help.
