Embedding a Square Online store into SquareSpace

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I run a tourism business down here in Australia that also sells merchandise. Our website is set up with SquareSpace, but we have a Square terminal POS for selling products in person. We are now looking at setting up an online store too.

I would love to use SquareSpace for this online store (to keep it simple) but unfortunately SS doesn't integrate with the Square Reader in Australia (USA only!).

So I'm now thinking the best way to keep my online/POS sales seamless is to build my online store with Square, but keep my website with SquareSpace. Is it possible to build a Square Online store and embed it into SquareSpace? I don't want my customers redirected from the website when they want to make purchases as that always seems dodgy!

Any help would be amazing! I can't believe how confusing this has all gotten! If there are any other alternatives you can think of I am open to suggestions!

Thanks,

Ellie

As you say, Squarespace POS isn't available outside the US and even when if it was, it wouldn't integrate with your existing Square POS system.

It's difficult to tell you the best way forward because the answer will depend on so many different factors, like:

  • how many retail sales you expect vs online sales
  • how many products you intend to sell online
  • whether you are taking other (non-merch) orders online via Squarespace already
  • and so on.

However, here are a couple of quick options to consider:

  • You can add embed Square Buy Buttons into your Squarespace store and continue to use your Square POS for in-person sales.
  • You can build a separate Square online store for merch, perfectly synchronised with your physical store, and provide click-through to this store from your Squarespace website. You can also use a subdomain of your existing website to make it appear genuine and professional.

Hey Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me!
I have had a look at the Square buy buttons, it looks like a good way to sell an individual item, but it doesn't really seem like a store- for buying different items all at once?

I think building a Square Online store might be the go- but can it be built into my SquareSpace website so the customer isn't sent away from my main website? Do you know of any examples that show how this looks?

Thanks,

Ellie
