Mobile View Formatting and Sections

Recommended Posts

My template is 7.1 and recently, I am having an issue with the desktop view vs. mobile view. When I build pages in the desktop view, there seems to be no coloration between the placement of content (text, images, etc.) between the desktop view and the mobile view. Meaning, the webpage looks correct in the desktop view but the mobile view is all messed up (content overlapping content, content from the top of the page now at the bottom, etc.) - basically, I have to build the mobile page out to match the desktop view .

1. Is this normal and if not, how do I fix this?

2. Obviously the mobile page is going to be longer than the desktop page, but when reworking the layout of everything in the mobile view, the sections won't drag down on the mobile view to allow more space so the content isn't overlapping. In the desktop view, the sections drag just fine.

Help!
Thank you in advance!

It sounds like you're using Squarespace's Fluid Engine. One of the biggest changes is that the mobile block layout is now independent from the desktop layout. This has the potential to be great for design as you can make a better mobile experience than before... the downside is that now you HAVE to design the mobile layout as well as doing the desktop layout, and since they are not connected any updates to the desktop layout (e.g. adding new blocks or changing the order) need to be repeated on the mobile layout.

I would recommend that you design the desktop layout and finalizing it, then take the time to go through the mobile layout for the page and design that. If you try to do both from the beginning you can end up making more work for yourself.

I hope this answer helps, it's a problem that many people are finding and given the importance of a good mobile layout this current setup needs to be better publicised and needs a solution, maybe an "auto mobile layout" toggle that simply places the blocks in the order that they are in on desktop, or a warning message when saving from the desktop editor if you haven't entered the mobile layout editor.
