Limited enabled pages, using Squarespace 7.0

Recommended Posts

I get a message saying I have reached the maximum number of enabled pages allowed at 20 pages. However, I am on version 7.0 and from the help articles I should be able to access up to 1000 pages. I am on the Personal annual plan. I tried updating my billing from annual to monthly Personal plan to see if that would change access to enabled pages, but no luck there. I have been unable to find help on the forums or help articles that would explain why I have limited pages or how to fix it. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Jaimekhardy it sounds like you are on a legacy plan, if memory serves correctly, that has the benefit of allowing code injection on the personal plan but limits the number of pages to twenty. You can certainly upgrade with the help of Squarespace support, but be aware of the potential functionality you may lose (if you do have any code injection or scripts in code blocks).

Switching from annual to monthly doesn't change the limitations of a plan, upgrading to Business would change the limitations.

Would you be able to tell me how you got round this page limit, please?

This 20-page limit applies to older Personal Plans, known as a "legacy" billing plan.

You can upgrade to a newer plan to remove this limitation but, depending on the plan you choose, you may find that some existing features may not be available on the newer plan. Also, it's not possible to return to a legacy plan after switching to a current plan.

Thank you for your prompt reply. How then do I go about upgrading my personal website? I don't need a business upgrade, just a personal.

For instance, when I go to the account page - subscriptions - change plan - the Personal Plan is not clickable.

I don't need a business plan - just need a personal plan.

Thanks

If your legacy plan has expired, or you cancel the service, you can then choose one of the current billing plans, including the Personal Plan. If you're unsure or require assistance with changing plans, I encourage you to contact Customer Support. If you experience any difficulties contacting them, please follow the steps in my guide, how to contact Squarespace

Bear in mind that the current Personal Plan (2024) has a number of limitations that didn't apply to the legacy plan. You can’t return to the legacy plan so you may need to disable or remove some "premium" features from your site. For example, the 2024 Personal Plan, does not allow you to have an Announcement Bar, Amazon Block, Code Block (so cannot add JavaScript or iframes), Donation Block and so on. You will also be limited to two contributors, including the site owner.

Under your account settings, choose billing and subscriptions. There you can change to the current personal plan, (similar to the one you have now) by choosing select,  the same as any other billing plan.  This will take care of the page limitation but as noted by Paul and Ziggy, you will lose all code injection except for Custom Css and certain code in code blocks.

My oldest site is still on the personal legacy plan. It has a lot of code I would lose so I deal with the 20-page limit. As a note, this page limit does not apply to blog post pages only to the actual blog page.

Hi, Derrick! I just ran into this 20-page limit problem today. If I select the "new" personal plan, I'm wondering if my client will no longer receive email? She buys her domain email from Google, but I'm a bit confused since Squarespace just took over Google email. Because of this, I'm hesitating to get her on the new personal plan. Can you shed any light? Thank you, Linda

A clarification. Squarespace did not take over Google Workspace email. Google still provides Google's email service.

What happened is Google got out of the domain hosting business and transferred the domains that they hosted over to Squarespace.

As long as your email related DNS records are correct your email should continue to work no matter where your domain is hosted. This is assuming there are no other DNS issues or a transfer issue, which often happens because most people aren't prepared for the complexity of transfering a domain. It is a delicate dance and one false step and chaos and sadness ensues.

In Billing and Subscription, the Personal Plan option is grey-out and when I move the mouse over it, there's a red circle with a red line through it. In UK road signage, this circle with the red line through it means You Cannot Do [Something]. That is also the case in this scenario.

You're billing changeability must be different than mine. I can change from the legacy personal plan to the current personal plan. In billing the personal plan has a blue change link, and when clicked the billing options all show up and the personal plan option link is also active.

Your explanation is very interesting, I’m also on version 7.0 – Bedford Family (Bedford template) and I have the same problem with the maximum number of enabled pages allowed, 20 pages.

We want to understand if when you say "you will lose all code injection, except for custom CSS and certain code in code blocks" you are referring to code entries that we could have expressly introduced or if we would lose codes that are included by default in the Squarespace template.

Thank you, we look forward to your reply.

Hello, I have changed both my website and blog from Wordpress to Squarespace and I'm very happy with the change. One of the things that I value more here is the treat given by customer service, the willingness to innovate and keep us with nice, simple and functional improvements. I'm in the Public Relations field and I love discovering nice and singular places for events, that is why I created www.guiasingular.com, a guide where I select unique venues and share them.

You will lose codes that you may have in page/advanced settings and website tools/code injection.
Also, certain types of codes such as javascript you may have added will not work anywhere.

It is listed in the billing plan as this:

Complete Customization With CSS and JavaScript

The legacy plan allows all code its only limitation is page count.
