Waitlist not showing up until customers click a variant, which makes it pointless. Fix please, Squarespace

Recommended Posts

In two years of business I'm not sure that a single person has ever signed up to a product waitlist on our site to be notified when a product is back in stock.

This is entirely because you HAVE to select a variant for the waitlist field and button to show up. Who would click a product variant if they are all showing as out of stock? It's lunacy. Makes the waitlist feature completely useless for us, which is a shame as it's a great opportunity to capture additional sales from eager customers.

This needs to change ASAP. Someone help us out here.

The current behaviour works well on stores where the variants refer to different colourways or sizes, because most colours/sizes are usually in stock if a product is current, and so a customer will generally select a variant.

However, I believe you are using the variants to add upsell options like gift-wrap? In those circumstances I can see why this is an issue. In those circumstances it should be possible to change the behaviour with some code so that the waitlist form appears when the page loads.

The solution will depend on the way you've configured your products. Are all variants used  for upsell options, or are there some products that use variants in the standard way - to indicate different variations of the product?

Links to some example products would also help 🙂
