Accessibility - setting tabindex to zero?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Hoping someone might be able to help--we're running some accessibility tests on a website before it goes live (hence why I haven't included a URL) but one of the errors we're getting is that "Elements must not have a tabindex greater than zero."

We've found the piece of code that's causing the issue, which is here:

<a href="#page" tabindex="1" class="header-skip-link sqs-button-element--primary">
      Skip to Content
    </a>

Obviously the "Skip to Content" button is essential to our accessibility requirements--but could anyone help in providing a solution to change the tabindex to zero? As it's in the Squarespace coding so I imagine we need some custom code to cancel it out...

Thanks in advance for your help!

It would be helpful if you could password protect the website and then share the URL and password.

This thread seems to have helped a few people:

Hi Ziggy,

I've actually got the same issue on a publicly available website here: www.farrierhousesurgery.co.uk.

I've had a look at the thread you shared - however I wasn't sure if that would work as it says it's for 7.0... What do you think? Worth a shot?

Thank you for your help!

Worth a shot I'd say! If it doesn't work we can hopefully find another solution.

The solution above isn't working for me. www.cfmrsandiego.com is my clients' site. We use 7.1

What did you try? What are you trying to do?

Hi Ziggy,

I'm trying to make the TabIndex of the "Skip To Content" button  = 0 in our 7.1 website. With the button already being built in to the template, I'm having trouble setting the tab index. I'm not sure where to start with this

I'm having this same issue with a client site where the TabIndex of the "Skip to Content" button is 1. The site is 7.1 so the other thread doesn't do anything for me either. Any help?

I’m having the same issue.

The famous: Some elements have a [tabindex] value greater than 0

The code identified is the following:

<a href="#page" tabindex="1" class="header-skip-link sqs-button-element--primary">

Reading some other sources it seems that we could just change the tabindex value to be equal to 0 would fix.

How do we do it in Squarespace, please?
