Multiple Domain Names Question

Site URL: https://cosmicencounter.com

I have managed cosmicencounter.com for several years at Squarespace, but now I need to change the primary domain name to futurepastimes.com. All site content will stay the same. My company also owns futurepastimes.com, it's registered with GoDaddy and I will transfer it to Squarespace. But I want to keep the cosmicencounter.com domain, and set up a permanent 301 redirect so that all existing links with the cosmicencounter.com/blahblah url will automatically redirect to the new primary domain,  futurepastimes.com/blahblah.

I think I need to take the following steps in this order:

  1. Transfer futurepastimes.com from GoDaddy to Squarespace.
  2. Make futurepastimes.com the primary domain
  3. Make cosmicencounter.com, currently the primary domain,  the 301 redirect domain

Does this sound right? Thanks for any advice.

You don't need to set up any redirects, or transfer the domain from GoDaddy. Simply connect the domain and then set it as the primary domain.

The old domain will remain as a secondary domain, and all original URLs will continue to work but displaying the new domain instead.

Thanks for the quick reply, it almost sounds too easy. Eventually I think I will transfer the domain from GoDaddy just to consolidate the company's digital into as few services as possible. I assume I can do that anytime after I connect FuturePastimes.com to Squarespace and make it our primary domain.

If you plan to transfer the domain, you may as well do this first, unless time is short (connecting is usually much quicker than transferring due to the administrative processes of domain transfers).

I think we'll transfer the domains later but over to Google Domains, as we are going to start using Google Workspace and their email services etc.

So I did get FuturePastimes.com connected to Squarespace, and made it the primary domain. CosmicEncounter.com is the still listed as the secondary domain, but now neither domain name loads our site, I just get- about:blank.

Is this expected behavior that will resolve shortly? Thanks.

I recommend that you log on to https://greg-olotka.squarespace.com/config/safe and check that you do not have any software installed in Settings > Advanced > Code Injection that could be causing this.

Yes, I had something called Swipeable Galleries for Squarespace v1.1.8 in the footer

I removed it and the site works.

It says: * For use in a single Squarespace website: cosmicencounter.com

I'm sure that I need to install it for futurepastimes.com now that that's the primary domain.

Thanks for the help!
