Hi Lauren,

Try the below steps:

  • Make sure your page has a featured image
  • Add alt tags to all images on the page in question, and ensure the images are compressed
  • Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console and manually request for the page to be indexed

If that doesn't work after a week or so, feel free to send through your site and I can have a look 👍

I would like to change the image the comes up for my shop on google search results.  What do you mean exactly by a featured image and how do I select that in my shop?

Thank you, Xanthe.

Hi
I want to change my image that is appear on Google search Console. I added a featured image, Add ALT tags and index the pages in search console.

Is there any way where we can display a specific image there?

To change the image that appears in Google Search, you need to update the Open Graph image for your website. This involves adding a specific meta tag to your site's HTML, which tells Google which image to use. Make sure the image is high quality and fits Google's guidelines. It might take a little while for the new image to show up in search results.

To change the image that appears in Google search results (instead of your favicon), you’ll need to guide Google to use a different image. Here’s how:

  • Add Open Graph Tags: In your page’s header, include a tag like this:

<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/your-preferred-image.jpg" />

This helps search engines and social media platforms know which image to use.

  • Use Schema Markup: You can also add structured data (Schema) to specify the image:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "image": "https://example.com/your-preferred-image.jpg"
}

  • Make Sure the Image is Accessible: Ensure the image you want is visible to search engines and isn’t blocked by robots.txt.

  • Request Re-indexing: After making changes, use Google Search Console to ask Google to re-index your page.

  • Be Patient: It might take Google some time to update the image in search results.

This should help Google show the image you want, while keeping your favicon for its intended use!

to update the Open Graph image

If you visit page settings and add a social image, this updates the og:image meta tag.
