Google Search Console can't index site (soft 404)

Hey!

I've just published my site and logged into google search console via the Analytics -> Search Keywords option in Squarespace. My site does appear as my property in google search console, but when I request indexing via Check URL -> request indexing, I get an error and it says "site cannot be indexed, soft 404".

Do you guys have an Idea why?

I'm also having this problem, same thing ... 

soft 404 on the homepage

I tried redirecting the home page -> the root site with a 301 redirect (which i saw some people recommending) that didnt seem to work either

Has anyone figured this out?

How does this 301 redirect work? You got any articles on that?

Why won't Squarespace reply to this and address this issue everyone is having? I can't fix this either.
