I have a client that is having problems with customers being unable to choose pickup locations while selecting Apple Pay or PayPal.

I imagine the customers are able to choose a pickup location but customers probably don't realise that they must select a shipping/pickup method before authenticating.

For example, when I tested the site, the pickup options were available to me, albeit truncated due to their length. The screenshots below show the Apple Pay version compared to the other version (some information has been redacted from the Apple Pay screenshot):

I've seen customers miss the shipping/pickup option many times. Usually this is because of a combination of factors, often including:

  • The customer is not familiar with the way Apple Pay works (once they authenticate it is too late to go back and select different payment, pickup/shipping/contact information.
  • The pickup information area (labelled 'method') is incredibly small and can easily be missed. Squarespace designers are unable to dedicate more space for this information, so if your pickup information spans more than a few lines, the full pickup instructions will not be visible (based on the limits Apple impose).

I hope this helps.

My customers are experiencing the same confusion with the Apple Pay check out workflow on mobile. Why not ask the customer the shipping and method prior to the Apple Pay authentication screen?  Customers are confused even before they intend to select Apple Pay (on mobile) since they haven't selected the shipping method etc and the workflow simply offers the apple pay button so they think they will complete the payment once they hit that button. The other part they are getting confused is after selecting apple pay and seeing the shipping address and method. It's confusing. Why not use the word "pickup" there alongside a traditional shipping like it does on the desktop??
