There are a couple of alternatives that don't require code: You can add your product description to the 'Additional Info' section - you will find this when you edit the product. If you are using Squarespace 7.1, you can choose a different 'product detail page layout' like 'Full' (see the screenshot below). Read more about Product Detail Page Layouts here.
