Custom hover effect over image stops image link working

I have a group of four images that link to four sections on my site. They are four inline images - not a gallery section.

When I customised the captions to show on hover with a semi-transparent black box behind covering 100% of the image, the image link no longer works...

I've tried a few things I've seen on the forum, but can't get it to work.

Its a shame because the caption on hover default style isn't very current.

Any ideas would be welcome! Thank you!

go to menu 'Portfolio'. The four images headed Recent work immediately below the hero section.

Don't share login info public. Just share access password only.

Which code did you use? We can tweak it easier.

Oh sorry! I wasn't sure how to share the pages at the time.

I have attached a screen grab of the code I used...

Should there be another curly bracket after 'background....important;'

It seems abit wierd that there's a second class name halfway through. But squarespace code has me baffled!

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue!

Wow! Thank you @NiaWritesCode I just added !important after the 1, and it worked like a charm. Appreciate the help!
