Adding a "featured event" block?

I am trying to add a block to the homepage of my org's website that will update itself whenever I create a new event and mark it as featured. I don't want the full calendar block on the homepage, just a smaller, more focused one specifically to highlight a featured event, so I don't have to manually update the homepage every time there's a new event we want to highlight.
