They allow clients to schedule repeating appointments, or pick several appointment slots individually. To disable them: Click Customize appearance, then click Scheduling page options. In my testing I am seeing each person who joins group/class adds a separate calendar event on the same date. I'm guessing if 50 people join it will create 50 events for same time slot.
