Make Arrow Background Transparent

Can anyone help me with either the Theme Editor settings or CSS coding to make the background of the arrows transparent for my shop item galleries? While it isn't that bad in the below picture, it's pretty bad on mobile. I'd even be open to moving them completely below the image if that's easier or looks better.
