Mobile Calendar Thumbnails

I am trying to do one of two things within the mobile calendar on my site.

1. Show the thumbnail on the mobile calendar (as in desktop view) to show customers an at a glance view of what is going on.

or

2. Create a generic number of thumbnails that I place distinctly over event types on the mobile calendar.

Through some research I have found the following...

.yui3-squarespacecalendar .compact-layout .background {
    display: block !important;
}

...but this does not seem to show what I am looking for. In the preview it shows the top left of the image in the desktop calendar, but on an actual phone the spots on the calendar are still grey squares.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
