How do I create a sidebar navigation?

I am new to Squarespace but have been advised that what I want to do requires custom code. Not something I have done before but apparently there may be someone here that can help. 😃

I want to move the navigation panel to the left hand side. See the look on a different website here ....https://beataheuman.com. 

How do I do this?
