How to select multiple categories?

The built-in product category filter only allows you to select one category at a time. It is possible to do more complex filtering but it requires custom code to be written and it can get pretty complex.

However, Squarewebsites 🇺🇦 have a pre-built plugin available called Universal Filter that can add more complex product filtering.

I wish to have something similar on my site in order to help the user sift amongst our 50+ products.
