Send updated version to all customers who have purchased a digital product

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am selling digital products (software) through my Squarespace website.

I have thousands of customers that have downloaded a specific product and I am planning to have an updated version of it which I am going to make available for all the customers who have bought the product.

I want to know how I can notify all these customers that have bought that specific product and let them know there's a new version out.

A mailout would do- but as far as I can see, there is no option to target only  the customers that have bought a specific product. A mailing list wouldn't work as in there, I have many people that haven't bought the product which not only will make a mailout irrelevant, but they would also probably get the product they haven't paid for for free.

I would guess that this is a very basic function for any e-commerce system but I cannot find a way to do this with Squarespace. Am I missing something or is it that this basic function doesn't exist?

Many thanks in advance!

At the moment you can only do this by exporting your orders from the Orders panel. There is an option to filter the export to show only a specific product (see below). You can then import the list of email addresses if you want to use Campaigns.

You'd expect to be able to produce this segmented list directly in Squarespace Campaigns, but this isn't possible yet. You can create segments by using filters within the Profiles panel but Squarespace haven't added the ability to 'filter by product' yet. There's an option to manually tag profiles but this wouldn't be practical for "thousands of customers".

Hi Paul,

Thanks a lot for the response. Glad this workaround exists but it really is quite a bit of work, especially because I have several product bundles that include the same product. It doesn't seem that you can select several products to export the data from.

It really baffles me that Squarespace hasn't implemented a simple feature like this. The e-commerce part of Squarespace seems like it doesn't want to keep users in the platform exclusively and pushes customers to jump into other platforms like Sellfy or Shopify to create their digital shops, especially for digital products.

I hope they implement features like this- once you've setup a shop elsewhere, it's highly unlikely you'll return to Squarespace for your e-commerce 😞
