Image order in galleries

I'm working on converting this page to a gallery page, as well as adding new people (well, they go on a different page). Is there any intention to allow you to sort the images via some information that I add to the image in the gallery? Having to manually sort 200+ images is painful If I could set a field with the person's last name + first name, and then let the software handle the sorting, life would be much simpler.
