I used a website speed test (https://tools.pingdom.com/#5fd89e0bef000000).

My score was greatly impacted by lack of gzip compression:

GRADE SUGGESTION
F - 0/100 Compress components with gzip

Compression reduces response times by reducing the size of the HTTP response. Gzip is the most popular and effective compression method currently available and generally reduces the response size by about 70%. Approximately 90% of today's Internet traffic travels through browsers that claim to support gzip.

I've searched for how to compress with gzip within Squarespace, but cannot find any instructions, nor anything explicitly stating that this is not possible.

Is it possible to perform gzip compression within Sqsp (as opposed to downloading & compressing the files with another program myself)?

Thank you!

The recommendation only applies to web servers that are being built manually, not to Squarespace. The tool you are using is not “Squarespace-aware” and is therefore suggesting fixes that are not possible on this platform.

Squarespace, it sounds like you have lots of demand for tools to speed up websites. Google really cares about this and so should you. I understand the platform compatibility issue but there should be some other solutions. Our site scored poorly in a few areas and I would love the help! Our website is www.mmmooreinc.com

Squarespace I feel totally let down by your company.  I left wordpress and rebuilt site expecting to have an easier life (because I believed in you)  but the website is so slow, how can  you expect us to sit back and lose sale after sale in such a competitive market??  Please listen to your customers and help us speed up our website asap or I will be leaving!

Also interested in solutions for speed issues.  Doing everything possible on this end and still get abysmal "core vitals" score on tests.   Ease of use and aesthetics of platform are kinda worthless if Google won't rank sites based on this issue.... Please address!
