help: my products with a dash in the sku are not showing up in my search

I noticed that (some of) my products with a dash are not showing up in my search results. They are live. They are in a category on a visible collection page. If i omit the dash and everything after it the search bar finds it and others with that sku range.
What is the best way to resolve this?

If you need search to work you should explore solutions outside of SS's search.
